When I purchased this blade, I was a bit worried as to whether the quality would meet my expectations of a good machete. I ordered it on Monday, and received it on the Friday of the same week, which I was happy with. Right out of the box, I could feel the quality. I first took notice of the origin of the kukri - South Africa. The blade is of a decent carbon steel, coated with an anti-rust agent and a satin black finish. The black finish seems to come off through work, though it is significantly better than many other black finishes which I have seen.
I could not tell if the tang goes all the way through the PVC handle or not (I checked by passing a magnet through the lanyard hole, which yielded a negative), but the construction seems sturdy enough to assume that the tang goes through quite a ways. The handle itself is, as I mentioned, made from PVC plastic. I would recommend wearing gloves while employing this instrument, as the handle is hard and textured, not to mention tapered at the bottom, which puts a a considerable amount of stress on the palm of the hand, easily leading to blisters and irritation in the course of repetitive chopping.
The sheath that came with the kukri is made in Taiwan from two pieces of cordura (good) nylon, with a beltloop of the same material, and a tip of plastic. The material is quite satisfactory, which lends but another quality to this purchase. In addition to everything I've listed so far, Cold Steel, the manufacturer, provides a five year warranty on the blade, provided that you still have the receipt.
To sum it up, Eline and Cold Steel have another satisfied customer. |

I love it. It came kinda sharp;that was solved easily. It shaves now. I have chopped though a 4x4 in 10 chops (Redwood)and use it all the time because I wood carve.True if you rub sandpaper or something like that against it the black will come off;but Im well satisfied. Its part of my " end of the world survival kit"and you should add one to yours. |
